Dean has passed the American Mountain Guides Association Tope Rope Site Manager Course and the Wilderness First Responder Course at the National Outdoor Leadership School. Dean is certified in GPS and GIS and has extensive training in Leave No Trace principles and Eco/Adventure Tourism. Dean has been a Level One Rock Guide with First Ascent Climbing Services since 2005 and has been a lead guide on their two-week Smith Rock Kids Climbing Camp for three consecutive seasons. Additionally, Dean has extensive experience rigging for rough terrain construction projects. As the climbing, rigging and fall protection foreman for Mountain Methods at Keane Wonder Mine in Death Valley National Park, Dean managed the saftey and rigging for all employees during the installation of saftey closures at over 30 abandoned mine features. These features were located on extremely steep, unstable and rocky terrain requiring helicopter operations for delivery of equipment, material and personnel.
